Note: Drabble topics are the same as the up-to-1000 word topics. The emotion to be incorporated in the Drabble is different for each meeting.

6 Feb:                    Free choice topic

20 Feb:                 Insomnia or There was no going back (Don’t use ‘it seemed’ or ‘it felt like’)                      Drabble emotion – Admiration

6 Mar:                   On-the-spot writing: music as stimulus

20 Mar:                 Fever or Forgotten         Drabble emotion – Anger

3 April:                 A story set in either of these time periods: the Middle Ages or the 1950’s

17 April:               The devil may care or Subterranean Blues  (The protagonist doesn’t achieve what they want)    Drabble emotion – Boredom

1 May:                  Poetry Workshop – Details I month prior

15 May:                Marshmallow Longings or Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust

Drabble emotion – Confusion

5 June:                 Using the picture attached to the program, write a story that gradually becomes grotesque/surreal 

19 June:               Fire and Ice or The Journey (No adverbs to be used)

Drabble emotion – Disgust

3 July:                   Write a poem about a mundane kitchen item (eg garlic crusher, chopping board), using language to make the ordinary seem extraordinary

17 July:                 A mountain or Why did you do it?

Drabble emotion –Envy

7 Aug:                   Lunch at Café Vulcan: Sensory writing about the food being consumed. Tap into memories invoked by the experience

21 Aug: `              Garden Talk or Back Track  (Give a character a particular mannerism or attribute (eg twitch,  scar, tattoo)   Drabble emotion – Horror

4 Sept:                  An author/artist/carpenter (or other occupation) overhears a discussion about his/her work

18 Sept:               The gift of birds or White-water rafting

Drabble emotion – Nostalgia

2 Oct:                    Workshop: walking the local neighbourhood: observation, interaction and reflection (idea based on ‘The Fitzroy Diaries’ by Lauren Clarke)

16 Oct:                  A handful of gravel or Tough Call

Drabble emotion – Sympathy

6 Nov:                   A story that gradually builds up a complex word picture of one of the characters

14 Nov:                 Bucket List or Feather in the Web

Drabble emotion – Triumph

4 Dec:                   Xmas Party: Communal lunch plus up to 1000 word short story (Turn a sad event into a humorous story eg the cat died this morning)
