Welcome to 2017

Eurobodalla Writers Group’s first daytime meeting of the year trialed a new format, especially reducing the amount of time spent on admin. After reading our stories on the day’s theme and comments given, we even managed (with optional participation) a new aspect – what inspired your writing.

What’s ahead for the day-time Group (1st & 3rd Wed)? A big year of writing is planned including a group project, along with workshops, excursions. New members are always welcome.

You’d like to come along but can’t write, or you’re not sure if you can write but you’ve always wanted to do so? Don’t worry no writing experience necessary. The year’s topics are given in advance. Short stories – all genre. Differing styles – some humorous, others sombre, some mainly dialogue, fact or fiction, 100 words or up to 1000 it’s your choice; or you might be drawn to poetry – topics are given for those also.

The night-time Group (3rd Tuesday) will recommence in February. This Group is mainly for people who are writing or wish to write a book and constructive comment (critique) is a major part of this group. Encouragement, motivation, ideas, and much more has been the hallmark of the productive group since 2013. Proficiency varies from learning to write a novel (fact or fiction), collating notes and putting them into a readable format to multi-published authors. All different genre. Interested? New people are welcome.

Please contact us for further detail on either group.

Happy writing … and reading.

Eurobodalla authors in Bay Post ‘Moruya Examiner’

Eurobodalla Writers (EWG) is a thriving group from novice writers to traditional and indie/self published authors. The Bay Post is writing a series of articles about the activities of local authors in the EWG. Here’s the first article dated 13th June 2016:

The Eurobodalla Writers Group is scribing away as 30 members chase their passion and dreams.

Stafford Ray is about to tour libraries and bookstores with his second thriller/love story, Australian Gulag. Cassandra Webb is promoting her second children’s picture book, Take Ted Instead, which bookstores can order through Scholastic. She has started a publishing company to help writers achieve their dreams. Debbie Richardson is pitching her science fiction to New York agents and getting requests for samples – an achievement on its own. She will hold a writing workshop on Saturday at the Sapphire Club, Merimbula, from 1pm to 4pm. All welcome. Visit http://www.writersfsc.org.au. Cat Sheely and Marisol Dunham are on the committee of Conflux, an annual speculative fiction event held in Canberra in October. Cat is pitching her speculative fiction novel to Australian publishers. 3rd Introductory Evening Meeting a Success

Last night the 3rd introductory evening meeting of the Eurobodalla Writers saw 6 writers present their short stories.  The first story was one we could all identify with – doctors orders to lose weight and the returning energy and good feelings leading to an over-adventurous activity and an accident.  Oh Dear.  That was followed by a lovely story about a naughty little dog dressing in the owners best pink dress and the disastrous results.  This was followed by a wonderful poem about a ghostly Friar – we shivered.  A tribute to mothers and the meaning of Mothers Day has all of us nodding in agreement.  Finally, a story about getting away with murder.

It was a very enjoyable evening with feedback on the stories, discussions about the topics and general good cheer.

The next meeting of the evening group is on 4 June 2013 at 6.30pm at the Dr MacKay Centre, Page Street, Moruya.  Anyone interested in writing, learning to write or just listening to some good yarns is welcome.  Cost is $6.00 and the annual fees for the Fellowship of Australian Writers ($40.00).
